A SureTrack community member had a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan in the shop with code P0087. They posed the question to the community and with the help of fellow community member 6617258232<\/strong>, and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.<\/p>\n

Complaint<\/strong>
\nCustomer states the car misfires on cold start. Engine stalls or does not start with a heavy fuel smell.<\/p>\n

Cause<\/strong>
\nIdles for a few seconds and smells like too much fuel is dumping. Before the code P0192 was shown, but now only P0087.<\/p>\n

After removing the intake manifold, there was too much carbon build-up on top of the valves and ports. Cleared the build-up, put the intake together and tried to start the vehicle but no communication was shown with the computers. Disconnected and connected getaway and communication is restored. Tried to start the vehicle back up and it misfired, then went away, and idled fine.<\/p>\n

The next day, code P0192 is shown. Vehicle did not start, or it would start and idle for a few seconds, then die with code P0087. Checked fuel pressure on scan tool showing command 580psi. In actuality, it goes from 40psi and drops slowly to 14psi. Checked fuel pressure sensor and states pin 1 is good, ground pin 2 is 5.0 v and pin 3 is also 5.0 v. Due to the carbon build-up, the sensor is not getting clean 5.0 v, thus the signal is inaccurate. These tests verified the fuel pressure sensor was faulty.<\/p>\n

Correction<\/strong>
\nReplaced fuel pressure sensor, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.<\/p>\n
