So you have a vehicle in your shop with a trouble code, you replace obviously bad parts but the code returns. The SureTrack community comes to the rescue. SureTrack community member Mlopez2008<\/strong> had a GMC Terrain in their shop with a code P0017 camshaft code. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member Markbob<\/strong> and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.<\/p>\n

Diagnostic Steps Performed\/Parts Replaced<\/strong>
\nChecked for codes and found P0017 – Crankshaft Position – Exhaust Camshaft Position Not Plausible. Cleared code and it returns. Found timing chain loose and exhaust actuator not parked. Replaced timing chain and actuators (GM parts). Swapped cam sensors. Solus edge info at idle shows intake command percentage at 43 and exhaust command percentage at 0. Desired exhaust position at 0 intake at 16; Actual exhaust 0 intake16. When I jump the exhaust solenoid the engine will miss, like it should, but the Solus does NOT change as far as the actual readings. What am i missing, ECM?<\/p>\n

\nHave you checked out GM PIP4548G ? It’s for the cam sensor reluctor wheel slipping on the camshaft. Never personally seen it happen but might be worth a look in your case.<\/p>\n

Cause<\/strong>
\nGot a second car in here with the same LEA engine. Pulled valve cover, lined up timing marks and there it was, the tone ring had moved a quarter inch.<\/p>\n

Correction<\/strong>
\nRemoved and replaced exhaust cam and followers. Cleared codes and test drove vehicle. Code did not return.<\/p>\n
