Title
Clicking sound coming from under the truck when slowing down

Complaint
There is a clicking sound—similar to a playing card in bike spokes—when I release the gas and coast to a stop with the truck still in gear. This noise occurs only when I’m driving at speeds between 24 and 17 mph. However, if I shift into neutral while the noise is happening, the clicking stops.

Issue Description
Checked all u-joints thoroughly, replaced front c/v shafts along with the inner shafts in the front end. Inspected all the wheel bearings and they feel tight. However, I’m still hearing a clicking sound that I can’t pinpoint. What is causing the clicking sound?

Correction – Real Fix
Replaced the VVT solenoid under the intake manifold, and the noise went away.

SureTrack Real Fix: EGR Fix Triumph! https://mitchell1.com/blog/2025/04/09/suretrack-real-fix-egr-fix-triumph/ https://mitchell1.com/blog/2025/04/09/suretrack-real-fix-egr-fix-triumph/#respond Wed, 09 Apr 2025 16:16:30 +0000 https://mitchell11dev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=16124 The customer reported that the check engine light was illuminated. A scan tool was utilized, revealing a code P0400-00, which indicated a problem with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve "A" Flow. Live data monitoring during a test drive confirmed that the EGR valve was not functioning properly. A visual inspection showed no visible faults, and further checks indicated the wiring harness was intact. However, when the EGR valve was removed and tested with jumper wires, it failed to operate as expected. As a result, the faulty EGR valve was replaced, leading to successful resolution of the issue.

P0400-00, Replaced Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve

Complaint

The customer states that the check engine light is on

Cause

Confirmed the customer’s complaint regarding the check engine light being on. Connected a scan tool and identified code P0400-00, indicating an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve “A” Flow. During a test drive, monitored live data using the scan tool, revealing that the exhaust gas recirculation valve parameter was not within specified limits. With the key on and the engine off, commanded the exhaust gas recirculation valve using the scan tool, but observed that the valve was not functioning properly. Conducted a visual inspection of the exhaust gas recirculation valve, detecting no visible faults. Inspected the exhaust gas recirculation valve sensor wiring harness and connectors, confirming there were no loose connections or signs of damage. Used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage at the exhaust gas recirculation valve with the key on and engine off, confirming the presence of voltage. Additionally, checked the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness for any shorts or opens using the multi-meter, finding none. Removed the exhaust gas recirculation valve and employed a set of fused jumper wires to apply voltage and ground repeatedly to the valve, determining that the valve did not operate as expected. These comprehensive tests confirmed that the exhaust gas recirculation valve was faulty.

Correction

Replaced the exhaust gas recirculation valve, cleared codes, reset parameters, performed a road test, and verified that the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.

SureTrack Real Fix: DPF Dilemma Solved https://mitchell1.com/blog/2025/03/31/suretrack-real-fix-dfp-dilemma-solved/ Mon, 31 Mar 2025 16:18:13 +0000 https://mitchell11dev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=16082 A customer complaint regarding the engine light being on led to diagnosing code P1498 related to DPF overloading. Live data monitoring revealed that the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor signal was out of specification due to either a component fault or blockage. Inspections showed no issues with the sensor itself, but high soot levels indicated a blockage in the diesel particulate filter. A vacuum test confirmed this blockage, necessitating further action for resolution.

Title

P1498, Regenerated Diesel Particulate Filter

Complaint

The customer states the check engine light is on, the vehicle is in limp home mode and the diesel particulate filter light is flashing.

Cause

Confirmed customer complaint engine light on. Connected a scan tool and found code P1498 – DPF overloading. At idle, used the scan tool to monitor live data and found the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor signal parameter was not within specification due to component fault or diesel particulate filter blockage. Inspected the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor and found no faults. Used the scan tool to check the diesel particulate filter parameter for soot content and found the level was too high. With the key on, engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor and found both were present. With the key on, engine off, used the multi-meter to measure the resistance of the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor circuit by disconnecting the control component connector and probed the respective connector terminals. Found the measured resistance was within specifications, which indicated there was continuity through the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor and the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor circuit. Performed a visual inspection of the diesel particulate filter and found no obvious faults. Disconnect the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor pipes and used a vacuum gauge to apply a vacuum to the diesel particulate filter, the results of this test were not within specifications. These test results verified there was a blockage in the diesel particulate filter.

Correction

Regenerated the diesel particulate filter, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.

SureTrack Real Fix: 2014 Land Rover Freelander Fix https://mitchell1.com/blog/2025/03/18/suretrack-real-fix-2014-land-rover-freelander-fix/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 17:58:06 +0000 https://mitchell11dev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=16077 The customer reported that the check engine light was on in their 2014 Land Rover Freelander. After connecting a scan tool, a P00B8 code was found, indicating a correlation issue with the mass or volume air flow. A subsequent road test revealed a hissing sound, prompting a smoke test that identified a leak from the damaged charge air cooler hose. The hose was replaced, codes cleared, and a successful road test demonstrated proper vehicle operation with no fault codes or warning lights.

P00B8, Replaced Charge Air Cooler Hose

Complaint

The customer states the check engine light is on.

Cause

Connected a scan tool and found code P00B8 – MAP – Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation. Carried out road test, heard hissing sound while under load, connected a smoke machine to the air intake system, induced smoke into the system to check for leaks and found smoke leaked from the charge air cooler hose. Removed charge air cooler hose and performed a visual inspection of the charge air cooler hose and found the charge air cooler hose was damaged. These test results verified the charge air cooler hose was faulty.

Correction

Replaced the charge air cooler hose, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
